BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ISSUES:    Visited virology lab to solicit for help from the Zambia VCT Services (ZVCTS) in terms of providing materials for the ZNAD VCT centre, they gave us a requisition book for test kits and said they would also provide some daily activities registers, however they advised us to partner with the District Health Management Team (DHMT) as they can provide most of the requirements for free.   The Bank account opening forms were collected from Stanbic Bank and the two DHAT Zambia board members have met to do all the paper work and once we get the recommendation letters then the DHAT account can be opened, we will keep you informed on the progress.   The ZNAD VCT centre was recently opened and the Frontline VCT coordinator as been at the centre from the 15th to the 26th of February 2010 to provide support and supervise the newly trained deaf and hearing counsellors provide quality service to the people. On the 19th of February, 2010 ZNAD was having a “family fun day” and they requested for counsellors from the DHAT and Frontline offices to attend this function so that we could provide VCT services to them. I was accompanied by the Frontline VCT coordinator and an intern, we tested 25 clients, 23 were deaf and 2 were hearing persons. Five people test positive and referred to health centres near them for further help.  On Monday the 22nd of February, 2010 I accompanied two deaf people that tested positive to kanyama health centre because most of our health centres do not have health caregivers that can communicate using sign language, the clients said that their family members know very little sign language, hence I had to play role of an interpreter for these clients. Their next appointment is on the 9th of march, were they will go to collect the results of their CD4 count tests and have the doctors decide on the way forward for them.   The visits to the various hotels were mainly done in preparation for the march meeting and the HIV and Disability awareness-raising reception scheduled for the 15th of march, 2010.   The rest of my time was spent in the office where I provided VCT services to people that came, I also had a number of people living HIV that have children or relatives that are disabled come through to the DHAT office. They needed help in terms of finances for school fees and one partially sighted boy who needed a pair of spectacles, I referred them to Frontline under its OVC support programme. I have also been trying to draft a proposal for funding for DHAT Zambia, but I will need a lot of guidance from the regional office in terms of what areas to focus on and resources to collect updated data of the current situation on the ground in regards to HIV and disability.
RECOMMENDATIONS:       I had a very difficult time collecting my monthly allowances for December and January, which i was eventually given on the 22nd of February, 2010. Frontline was hesitant to give me my allowances because of the shortfall on the VCT project owed to them. This was very inconveniencing for me, hence I recommend and plead with you to send my allowance to my account and when you do you can simply send me an email to that effect. These are the account details; Zambia National Commercial Bank Plc, account name is Peter Philip Banda, account number is 0730010000017253. The branch code is 073 and the swift code is ZNCOZMLU.
